ReadItDaddy's Chapter Book of the Week - Week Ending 19th May 2017 - "The Big Fat Totally Bonkers Diary of Pig" by Emer Stamp (Scholastic)

Hooray! Hooray! It's book four in a series we have loved from the very start, our Chapter Book of the Week this week is the awesome "The Big Fat Totally Bonkers Diary of Pig" by Emer Stamp.
Who would believe that so much could happen to a humble and ordinary farmyard porker. Yet here we are, celebrating the glorious return of everyone's favourite curly-tailed diarist. Emer Stamp's hilarious and brilliant creation, Pig.

So, having outwitted fiendish chickens (who still can't be trusted), adventures with rockets, what's next for our porcine hero?

It's time to make a new friend - Rusty the new farmer's dog who might just be a bit on the mischievous side. Pig can cope though, after all he's Pig! Cow and Duck are also along for the ride once again, but you'll never believe what happens next (and you know us, we're not going to spoil a single moment of this book for you so go grab it and get reading!)

Two things tend to happen when we read a Pig book. 1) We can't stop laughing and 2) I keep slipping into a rather odd brummie accent while reading his bits out loud. This could be because of a misspent youth watching episodes of Pipkins...

(I'd forgotten how disturbing that programme was!)

...Or it just could be because that's how Pig has always been read.

Charlotte loves these books, snorting away to herself as she reads (pig would definitely approve!) and is already clamouring for Book 5. But where oh where would pig end up next? Only Emer knows!

Charlotte's favourite bit: A certain unfortunate accident once again putting pig in danger! HOLY SMOKY BACON!

Daddy's favourite bit: A total riot from start to finish, and a brilliant addition to a well loved series. Purely piggin' brilliant stuff once again Emer!
