Peanut Butter and BRAINS by Joe McGee and Charles Santoso (Abrams Young Readers)

Zombies? In a children's book? Is nothing sacred? Step inside for a funny tale of a zombie who's a little different from the rest...
Panic Ye Not, Victorian Parent, for this is a tale with a twist and certainly not a Wes Craven Horrorfest. In "Peanut Butter and Jelly BRAINS" prepare to meet a zombie with a rather unique appetitie.

Young Reginald is hungry. Hungry not for the lovely squishy stuff you keep wrapped up in your  skull but for something else that's rather squishy and red (but also peanutty). A big fat peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

All the other zombies in town mooch around on the search for squidgy brains to eat, but Reginald's tummy is rumbling and only a PB & J sarnie will sort him out. Can he somehow convince his fellow undead that going on the rampage for brains isn't going to win them any friends amongst the population of Quirkville?

When they spy a rather brainy girl with her lunch sack, there's a definite difference of opinion. Can this cerebral miss survive a zombie horde (and more importantly, can her lunch?)

This is a hugely original and highly amusing tale from Joe and Charles, bringing some great little horror movie tropes to a young audience in an entirely palatable way, in fact just reading this book made Charlotte demand Peanut Butter on toast so I'm slightly thankful that Reginald's diet appealed to her more than the other zombies! Ahhh the power of book suggestion!

The story shambles along at a cracking pace, the illustrations are fantastic and Reginald is awesome too!

Charlotte's favourite bit: The zombie cat (who actually wasn't thinking about brains, just a fish bone!)

Daddy's favourite bit: Pitched perfectly, this tale of the undead and their comestible cravings is absolutely hilarious and original. Sheer brilliance from Joe and Charles
