Origami Heart by Binny (Hodder Children's Books)

It's not a huge secret that we both love Origami. Any excuse to immerse ourselves in a bit of clever paper engineering and we're there...
We also love all things Japanese so Binny's new book "Origami Heart" feels like it could've been written just for us.

It's the glorious tale of a rather clever bunny (C says he's a bit too clever for his own good, in fact!)

Kabuki is very prim and proper, and likes his world to be 'just so'. He's cultured, clever and a bit of a whizz when it comes to paper folding.

The only problem is that Kabuki is lonely, and in a big city it's almost impossible to meet someone who shares his interests in origami, snow pea tea and natty dressing.

But chance is a funny thing, and perhaps the very person Kabuki seeks could be right under his nose.

We've seen a lot of children's books recently dealing with the subjects of loneliness, friendship and perhaps even love - and this is one of the best examples of a touching storyline being fused with gorgeous illustrations that we've seen in a long while. It's just so superbly stylish, just like Kabuki himself - and there's a chance to try out your own paper-folding skills with some great (and thankfully easy) Origami models to make later on in the book.

C's best bit: Making her own Origami rabbit and heart.

Daddy's favourite bit: A lovely heartfelt and surprisingly romantic little book. A shame we got it too late for Valentine's day but there's no excuse for next year. Pop this in your loved one's pressie pile!

"Origami Heart" by Binny is out now, published by Hodder Children's Books (kindly supplied for review).
